The basketball world can’t get enough of Caitlin Clark, but the WNBA’s latest sensation isn’t quite living up to the hype just yet. Despite her early scoring exploits, the Indiana Fever are struggling to rack up the wins. And it seems the rookie’s frustrations are starting to boil over.
In their recent 88-82 home loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, Clark found herself in hot water after jawing a little too much at the officials, earning a whistle for her troubles.
Caitlin Clark’s Disciplinary Woes with the Fever
The fourth quarter proved to be a tipping point, with both Clark and teammate Aliyah Boston getting tangled up in back-to-back foul calls that left them fuming. While Boston pleaded her case, Clark threw her arms up in exasperation after being whistled for a moving screen infraction.
“We’re spending way too much time yapping at the refs,” a terse Christie Sides, Fever head coach, said post-game when quizzed about Clark‘s foul. “We need to ditch that and just play our game. Let the officials do their job without us putting them in a position to make calls…that end up hurting us. Technical fouls? Not happening…I’ll handle the refs myself.”
Clark has also vented her own frustrations after certain games this season, admitting some things are beyond a player’s control. After picking up a technical on May 20 against the Connecticut Sun, she offered: “The technical? Yeah, probably could’ve avoided that. Just some frustration with how it was officiated. But it is what it is – you can’t control that. I thought we put ourselves in a position to make plays and try to win it late, but the Sun always had an answer.”
With just a 1-7 record so far, Clark and the Fever have their work cut out. Their next test comes against the Seattle Storm on Thursday.
