Brittany Mahomes has shown her support for Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark. Mahomes, 28, posted on Instagram Stories on Sunday, June 2, offering encouragement after Clark, 22, was knocked down by an opponent in a game against the Chicago Sky on Saturday, June 1.
In her Instagram post, Mahomes lauded Clark’s performance and determination. “@caitlinclark22 keep shining!!” she wrote. “You’re a powerhouse and it’s amazing to see your impact on the game and women’s sports!!”
The incident occurred when Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter collided with Clark during play, using both her shoulder and hip to push Clark to the ground. Initially, officials deemed it an away-from-the-ball foul and did not review the play. However, after further examination, the WNBA upgraded the foul to a flagrant-1 violation.
Despite the flagrant foul, Carter, 25, did not face additional consequences such as fines or suspension, as reported by Fox News.
Clark discussed the incident in a post-game interview on Saturday. Reflecting on the play, she stated, “I didn’t see it coming. These things happen. It’s a rough game. Just make the free throw and stay focused on the offense, and that’s what we did.”
Indiana Fever Coach Praises Caitlin Clark
Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides praised Clark for her poise and professionalism. “[Clark] got back up and continued playing. She merely requested the officials to review it. They chose not to. I respect how she handled the situation last night,” Sides commented in the post-game interview.
Clark’s resilience and continued performance despite the incident have earned her respect from fans and fellow athletes, with Brittany Mahomes’ supportive message further emphasizing the camaraderie within the sports community.
