Angel Reese has faced her share of hurdles in her budding WNBA journey. Now playing for the Chicago Sky, Reese has contended with aggressive fouls from seasoned players, complicating her adaptation to the league. Adding to her woes, her team has stumbled out of the gate, managing only three wins in their opening eight games this season.
Reese’s mounting frustrations boiled over during a matchup with the NY Liberty. In the closing moments of the game, after picking up her fifth personal foul, Reese’s protest to the referee earned her a technical foul.
As she walked off, she waved dismissively at the official, resulting in a second technical and an automatic ejection. This sequence of events caught the eye of Chicago Bulls star Lonzo Ball, who was present at the game. Ball openly criticized the referee’s actions, labeling them as weak, and magnanimously offered to pay any fines Reese might incur.
“Ref who ejected @Reese10Angel is weak btw… You know who you are (Keep your money Angel, I got you),” he posted on X.
Yet Another Fine for Reese
Reese responded with gratitude to Ball, tweeting, “Appreciate you gang!” This incident wasn’t Reese’s first brush with fines. She had previously been fined $1000 for skipping media obligations after a defeat to the Indiana Fever, a move that also cost her team $5000.
Despite her ejection, Reese posted an impressive 13-point double-double before being forced out of the game. Lead official Maj Forsberg later clarified that Reese’s initial technical foul was for “disrespectfully addressing” the referee, while the second was for her dismissive wave.
Without prior warnings, the successive technicals led to Reese’s ejection and a $400 fine.
