The Chicago Sky’s 83-75 defeat to the Connecticut Sun pushed them below a .400 record for the 2024 WNBA season, leaving head coach Teresa Weatherspoon visibly frustrated with Angel Reese and her squad.
A lackluster performance in the second and third quarters, where the Sky managed only 16 and 17 points respectively, allowed the Sun to gain a five-point lead going into the final quarter. This advantage expanded to eight points by the game’s end at Wintrust Arena in Illinois.
Weatherspoon was notably irate, emphasizing that future results must improve, asserting that outcomes outweigh the significance of personal development and experiential learning.
“Losing is never enjoyable. There’s nothing fun about it, not a single thing,” Weatherspoon stated emphatically. “No matter how much growth and learning happens, losing is still utterly unappealing. Absolutely nothing fun about it.”
“It doesn’t matter what lessons you take from it; losing remains a joyless experience. We need to fix our issues, and we need to do it swiftly.”
Weatherspoon Finds Silver Linings
Despite the setback against the Sun, there were some positive aspects to the game. Angel Reese shone brightly with 20 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, and two steals, marking her fourth double-double of the season.
Additionally, Diamond DeShields contributed nine points and two rebounds in her comeback from injury, showing signs of returning to her peak form, which gave Weatherspoon a glimmer of hope.
“Each and every one of them will improve as the season progresses,” Weatherspoon asserted. “We acknowledge the current issues, but I guarantee that they will all put in the effort to rectify them.”
“The one thing about this team is their dedication. They’ll get back in the gym and work tirelessly to turn things around,” she concluded.
