Caitlin Clark remains composed as the Fever focus on developing team chemistry and building connections with their highly-touted rookie amid a wave of fan expectations.
After an 88-81 triumph over the Mystics, the Fever have now strung together three consecutive wins, hinting at a potential turnaround, with Clark playing a pivotal role in this resurgence.
Clark, who notched 18 points and a career-best 12 rebounds, brushed off the negativity surrounding her team and outlined the Fever’s strategy to maintain their upward trajectory.
Over this winning streak, she’s averaging 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, with a consistent 17.6 points per game in her last five outings.
“In today’s world, everyone craves immediate gratification,” Clark remarked.
“Nobody walked in here and claimed we were destined to be WNBA Champions from day one. That was never our objective. Our aim was to make it back to the playoffs, and we’re battling for that every single night.
“This marks the first time we’ve secured four consecutive home victories since 2015. It’s important to maintain perspective, both in sports and in life.
“Like, having perspective on life. This team needs a clear perspective on what we can achieve.”
Clark Acknowledges the Team’s Challenges
Clark went on to discuss the Fever’s early season difficulties, attributing them to the formidable schedule they faced compared to other WNBA teams.
“No one here ever hung their heads. We had the toughest schedule to start. We barely had time to practice and we’re fielding the most inexperienced team in the WNBA,” Clark noted.
“So, I believe this group is beginning to gel and develop some chemistry, taking it one day at a time. But as I mentioned, everyone desires instant results.
“Sure, we would have loved that too. But I think we all maintained a healthy perspective, understanding the need for incremental improvement, and that’s what we’ll continue to pursue, even with this current three-game home winning streak.”
