Angel Reese is widely recognized for her outspoken nature both on and off the court. This strong personality has made her a standout player in the WNBA. However, sometimes her actions go a bit too far.
Such was the case earlier this month when Reese was ejected for “disrespectfully” addressing referee Charles Watson during a game between the Chicago Sky and the New York Liberty, resulting in two technical fouls in quick succession. Although the league later rescinded the second technical, the incident still had repercussions.
Angel Reese Faces Fines from WNBA for Technical Fouls
Even though the second technical won’t be counted in her season total, Reese now has three technicals for the season. According to WNBA rules, her next technical foul will result in a $400 fine.
- Technical Fouls 1-3: $200 each
- Technical Fouls 4-6: $400 each
- Technical Fouls 7+: $800 each
While these fines may not seem substantial, WNBA players’ salaries are modest compared to other professional sports leagues. Reese does have significant income from endorsements, but fines still affect her earnings.
One might expect Reese to adjust her behavior to avoid further fines, but doing so would alter the very traits that define her and have propelled her career. Don’t expect her to alter her approach anytime soon.
