As the WNBA season reaches its midpoint, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have emerged as frontrunners for the Rookie of the Year award, according to a recent poll by AP voters.

Clark, representing the Indiana Fever, and Reese have captured national attention with their stellar performances, marking them as the first rookie duo to earn All-Star team berths since 2014. Their impact extends beyond the court, significantly boosting ratings, attendance, and merchandise sales for the league.

Currently, Caitlin Clark holds a slight edge in the race, securing 9 out of 15 votes from the panel. One voter abstained from voting. Christy Winters-Scott, a respected basketball analyst, noted Clark’s team performance and head-to-head record as factors favoring her candidacy at this stage.

Clark’s statistical prowess underscores her candidacy further. Leading the WNBA in points accounted for, totaling 713 according to ESPN, she recently made history by achieving a triple-double in a game against New York, a feat unmatched by any rookie before her.

On the other hand, Angel Reese has made her mark by setting a new WNBA record with 13 consecutive double-doubles, surpassing Candace Parker’s previous mark. Her dominant rebounding performance, averaging 11.9 per game, solidifies her standing as a formidable contender for the award.

Meanwhile, the panel unanimously selected Las Vegas Aces’ star A’ja Wilson as the mid-season Player of the Year. Wilson’s exceptional season, averaging 27.0 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game, positions her as a leading figure in the league.

Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx received recognition as mid-season Coach of the Year, guiding her team to a Commissioner’s Cup title and securing a strong third-place position in the standings. Her leadership has been pivotal in the Lynx’s success, earning her widespread acclaim among voters.

With the WNBA season progressing, the race for Rookie of the Year remains open, promising further excitement and competition between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese as they continue to elevate their game on the court.
