While Diana Taurasi, Breanna Stewart, and Brittney Griner are sweating it out in Paris, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been having the time of her life during the WNBA’s Olympic break. While her colleagues are chasing gold, Clark has been basking in her own golden sunshine – a well-deserved break that she maximized to the hilt.
Though the Fever got back to practice this Tuesday, Clark made sure her week-long hiatus was nothing short of epic. The 22-year-old starlet hit the beach with teammates Lexie Hull and Katie Lou Samuelson, and her boyfriend Connor McCaffrey. Social media sleuths, ever the vacation detectives, concluded Clark was in Mexico. Not bad, right?
But wait, there’s more! Even while sipping margaritas and working on her tan, Clark managed to keep tabs on Team USA’s journey in the Summer Games. She also dropped a bombshell: she discovered sports she didn’t even know existed.
“Honestly, I watched a good amount of [the Olympics], and I’ve learned about some sports that I didn’t even know existed,” she told Iowa-based reporter Keith Murphy. “I haven’t only watched basketball.”
Imagine Caitlin Clark’s shock discovering that there’s more to the Olympics than basketball. Who knew?
Clark, who has been a hoops enthusiast since her days as a pint-sized baller in Des Moines, Iowa, suddenly finds herself intrigued by the Olympic smorgasbord. With 32 sports on display, it’s safe to say Clark’s newfound fandom includes some obscure ones – handball, anyone?
Still, her first love remains basketball. “But I watch a good amount of the basketball,” she admitted. “It’s fun. International basketball is just so much different than especially the college game, but even the WNBA game or the NBA game.”
She’s not wrong. Watching international basketball can feel like stepping into an alternate universe where traveling calls actually happen, and the three-point line seems like a suggestion rather than a rule.
Clark, like the rest of America, will be glued to the screen as Team USA faces Germany in their third and final group game on Sunday. The squad remains the heavy favorites to clinch their 10th gold medal, with the weight of an entire nation’s expectations on their shoulders.
So, while Clark’s week off was filled with beach fun and Olympic revelations, she’s ready to cheer on her fellow ballers. Whether it’s on the court or off it, Clark knows how to make every moment count – and keep us all entertained in the process.
