In a classic case of social media banter, Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese and Las Vegas Aces veteran Sydney Colson had a hilarious back-and-forth this weekend, all thanks to the Sky’s decision to bring in Tyler Marsh as their new head coach. After the Sky unceremoniously parted ways with Teresa Weatherspoon, Marsh, previously the Aces’ Assistant Coach and Head of Player Development, signed a multi-year deal to take the reins in Chicago.
The news sparked reactions across the WNBA, but Reese’s response was simple: a single-letter tweet that said it all—”W.” That’s when Colson, known for her quick wit and sense of humor, fired back, demanding some respect for her former coach.
“Excuse me?! We’re grieving, have some 🤬 respect!” Colson quipped, much to the amusement of fans.
But Reese wasn’t about to let her off the hook that easily. The Chicago Sky star saw the opportunity to rub a little salt in the wound—and maybe recruit Colson while she was at it.
“Sorry but your time is UP. It’s our turn! I’ll send you some tissue tho, sister girl, unless you want to come join this side too🤭,” Reese replied, adding a friendly jab about the Aces’ recent dominance.
Colson, clearly amused and maybe a little annoyed, fired back once more. “Lmaoo u just pissed me off so bad with this 😂😒.”
If you’re keeping score at home, it seems like the Sky are already 1-0 in the trash talk game.
A New Era in Chicago: Can Reese and Marsh Lead the Charge?
While the Aces have been busy collecting championships, the Sky were busy collecting losses last season—13 to be exact—which led to Weatherspoon’s ousting after just one year on the job. Now, they’re hoping Tyler Marsh can do for them what he helped do in Las Vegas: build a championship culture. With Angel Reese and towering center Kamilla Cardoso as the franchise cornerstones, it’s clear the Sky are in the middle of a full-on rebuild. Add to that a shiny new lottery pick in the 2025 Draft, and it’s clear they’re banking on a fresh start.
Marsh brings an impressive résumé, with stints on the coaching staffs of the Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors. He’ll now be tasked with turning a struggling franchise into a contender. No pressure, right?
Angel Reese: Sophomore Surge Incoming?
For Angel Reese, her rookie season was strong, but it ended prematurely due to a wrist injury after just 34 games. Still, her numbers were nothing to scoff at: 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting a respectable 39.1% from the field and 73.6% from the charity stripe. She was a force on the boards and made a name for herself as one of the top young players in the league.
Now, with a new coach in Tyler Marsh and a chip on her shoulder, Reese is ready to take her game to the next level. The Sky missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018, and Reese doesn’t plan on making that a habit.
So, while Sydney Colson might not be joining the Sky anytime soon—at least without a little more persuasion from Reese—Chicago fans can look forward to watching their young star try to lead them back to the promised land. And who knows, maybe the next time the Aces and Sky meet, Reese will have that box of tissues ready for Colson.
