In what can only be described as a Midwestern celebrity summit, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had himself quite a weekend at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Indianapolis. Aside from soaking in every last beat of the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) crowd, Kelce had a chance to meet WNBA star Caitlin Clark. And like any classic Midwestern encounter, the two bonded over sports, friendship bracelets, and, of course, their shared Swiftie devotion.
“I wanted to see Tay one more time before this whole thing wrapped up,” Kelce gushed on his New Heights podcast with his brother Jason, who, as usual, was on hand to offer a mix of admiration and sibling skepticism. “That thing was rockin’, absolutely rockin’,” he added with the kind of awe reserved only for Swift’s four-hour marathon of pure pop. But then he dropped the real news: “I got to meet Caitlin Clark!”
And, as if anyone needed further proof of Clark’s growing pop-culture icon status, she was every bit as excited to be there as Kelce. The Indiana Fever guard, notorious for her sharpshooting on the court, showed up to the concert with family and friends, reportedly on her third or fourth stop of the tour. “She’s awesome. Loves being out here in Indianapolis, true Midwestern to the core,” Kelce mused, adding that they both shared the distinct regional joy of having “played high school ball, college ball, pro ball” in the heartland.
Jason Kelce, however, wasn’t about to let Travis just get away with that wholesome take. With his trademark deadpan delivery, he wanted to know one thing: “Yeah, but was her dancing any good?”
According to Travis, it was. He confirmed she was thoroughly enjoying herself, fully decked out in Swiftie spirit and surrounded by her crew, handing out friendship bracelets like it was Halloween candy. And for anyone worried Clark might be a casual fan? Forget it. “She’s a Swiftie through and through, man,” Travis said with conviction.
Clark’s fans couldn’t agree more. As her photos from her private suite showed, she was beyond “FIRED UP!!!!!!!” for the concert, sharing her excitement on social media like any other die-hard fan. Her Instagram photo of Swift performing amid 70,000 screaming fans in Lucas Oil Stadium confirmed she was as invested as the best of them.
The only question left hanging in the air now is whether the Midwestern sports power duo managed to snag a selfie together, though no photographic evidence has surfaced yet. But knowing Clark and Kelce, that picture may just pop up when we least expect it, sealed with the ultimate Midwestern stamp of approval. After all, when the heartland unites over Taylor Swift, it’s basically a state holiday.
