In the ever-dramatic saga of the WNBA, LSU sensation Flau’jae Johnson recently threw her hat into the ring of hot takes, eagerly awaiting the shake-ups at the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky, and like the rest of us, she’s got questions.
The Fever finally put Christie Sides out of her misery after a lukewarm two-year stint, and the Sky? Well, they gave Teresa Weatherspoon one whole season before showing her the door. Talk about a quick exit—might as well have left the engine running! Both teams are now looking to freshen things up with new coaches, and Flau’jae couldn’t be more excited… or nosy.
“Stephanie White’s Back, Baby!”
On her wildly entertaining “Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae” show, Johnson couldn’t help but fangirl a little over Stephanie White, who’s stepping back into the Indiana Fever’s coaching gig. White, who led the Fever to the WNBA Finals back in 2015, is back to work her magic—or at least try to clean up the mess left behind.
“The Indiana Fever have Stephanie White as head coach, I really like that,” Johnson gushed. “She’s a player’s coach, you know? I remember when she was recruiting me at Vanderbilt. I was like, ‘I like this lady. I wanna go play for her.'”
It’s safe to say she dodged that bullet when she chose LSU, but it’s cute that she’s still cheering for White from the sidelines.
Tyler Marsh to Chicago: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Flau’jae then turned her attention to the Sky’s newest science experiment, Tyler Marsh, the guy who packed his bags from the Aces to take on the Sky’s hot mess of a roster. Marsh, who learned under WNBA mastermind Becky Hammon, now gets to lead a rebuilding Chicago team. No pressure or anything.
“I’m just excited to see how this goes,” Flau’jae said with a grin. “They’ve got a good young core… making waves. New teams, new coaches. It’s getting real in the WNBA. It’s getting serious.”
Serious? Maybe. But considering Angel Reese’s injury turned their 2024 season into a slow-motion car crash, Marsh better hope his Becky Hammon playbook comes with some miracle instructions.
A Not-So-Glorious 2024 for Clark and Reese
For those keeping score, the Fever finished 33-47 under Christie Sides, barely clawing their way into the postseason after a rough start. It took Caitlin Clark going full superhero mode to pull them out of the dumpster fire. Meanwhile, Chicago’s Angel Reese went down with a season-ending injury, and the Sky nosedived right out of the playoff picture, handing their No. 8 seed to the Atlanta Dream. Ouch.
If you’re wondering if this coaching drama is the solution to all their problems, well, you’re not alone. But hey, at least it’s entertaining!
Jonquel Jones Weighs In: “Give Them Their Flowers”
If you think Flau’jae is the only one hyped about Clark and Reese, think again. New York Liberty’s own Jonquel Jones popped in on Flau’jae’s show to dish out some praise for the WNBA’s rising stars, because why not?
“I’m proud of you all when I’m watching you all do what you’re doing,” Jones said, practically patting them on the back through the screen. “You and Angel and Caitlin… you all really are elevating women’s basketball.”
Translation: “Thanks for stealing all my headlines, but you’re doing great, sweeties.”
What’s Next?
With these new coaching hires, both Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are poised to lead their teams into a chaotic 2025 season. The only question now is, can their new coaches survive the inevitable fan meltdowns?
