Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith couldn’t hold back her admiration when her girlfriend DiJonai Carrington, the reigning WNBA Most Improved Player, decided to bless the internet with a photo dump that could make anyone double-tap on autopilot.
Carrington took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday with a quartet of glamorous selfies and the caption, “fine shyt, pretty face, adorable” — a humble reminder that, yes, she knows she’s gorgeous. Smith, not one to miss an opportunity to hype her girl up, chimed in with an enthusiastic response that practically dripped with affection: “you look good baby, you look gooddddd.”
I mean, if we had someone hyping us like that, we’d be posting selfies every five minutes. But Carrington, ever the gracious queen, replied with a simple “thank you my loveee,” proving that even in a world of picture-perfect moments, their love language is strong — and possibly could power the grid of a small town.
The couple, whose love story dates back to their Baylor University days, have made no secret of their feelings for each other. In fact, their Instagram pages are practically a digital scrapbook of #RelationshipGoals — complete with affectionate captions and adorable couple shots. But lately, things have been a little harder than usual.
You see, Smith is currently overseas in China, playing for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls during the WNBA offseason, while Carrington is gearing up to participate in the inaugural 3×3 Unrivaled basketball league. With a whopping 15-hour time difference and a staggering 6,500 miles between them, these two are pulling off the ultimate long-distance relationship challenge.
Carrington, in a rare moment of social media vulnerability (because let’s be honest, it’s usually all glam), shared just how tough it’s been to be apart. She posted a picture of herself with Smith, along with the caption, “We’re used to long distance ofc, but this time it’s a 15 hour time difference & we’re 6,500 miles apart. I miss you lovebug.”
The emotion was palpable — and Smith wasn’t shy about feeling it too. She added to the heartache by sharing a mirror selfie of the two with the heartfelt caption: “Miss’n my old ladyyy.” If that doesn’t tug at your heartstrings, we don’t know what will.
Meanwhile, because the internet loves some good banter, Chicago Sky star Angel Reese (clearly not immune to Carrington’s radiance) dropped in with her own two-word commentary: “face cardddd.” Clearly, the respect for Carrington’s selfie game is universal.
While the couple navigates life on opposite ends of the globe, basketball fans will soon see Carrington make her mark in the 3×3 Unrivaled league in January 2025. Smith, on the other hand, has opted to skip the league for now — perhaps to focus on her game in China, or maybe just to catch up on some quality FaceTime with her favorite “old lady.”
Let’s just hope the next selfie drop doesn’t crash our phones.
