A’ja Wilson, the Las Vegas Aces’ superstar and WNBA icon, couldn’t help but let loose her thoughts on the bizarre dance moves of her NBA 2K25 avatar. In a hilarious reaction that sums up every gamer’s cringe-worthy moment with their own video game character, Wilson called out her digital self with just three words: “Lmfao, so childish.”
In a video she shared on Instagram, Wilson watched her 2K25 avatar bust out some moves, including the infamous “Griddy,” popularized by NBA star Ja Morant a couple of seasons ago. As her virtual self showed off its questionable dance skills, Wilson’s real-life reaction was instant comedy gold. Who knew being the cover athlete for NBA 2K25 also came with having to watch your digital twin pull off what can only be described as… creative choreography?
Wilson’s Digital Dancing Dilemma
Wilson is no stranger to NBA 2K. After all, she’s not only in the game, she’s on the cover—twice! Sharing the honor with Jayson Tatum for the All-Star Edition and also fronting the WNBA Edition, Wilson has made history as the first WNBA player to grace the global cover of the game. But that doesn’t mean she’s giving her in-game moves a pass.
In her own words, being part of NBA 2K25 is an empowering moment for her and the league:
“Seeing more and more WNBA athletes scanned into NBA 2K25 to best capture the style and confidence of the league has been empowering,” Wilson told USA Today.
But, let’s be real, watching yourself floss like an overly enthusiastic middle schooler? Maybe a little less empowering.
Cover Star, But No Cover for These Moves
As the reigning MVP and leader of the Las Vegas Aces, Wilson’s NBA 2K rating is a jaw-dropping 99, and her team boasts an 84 overall rating—strong enough to dominate in any game mode. However, even that elite status couldn’t save her from the dance-off happening on her screen.
Perhaps it’s part of the game’s elaborate plan to keep things light, or maybe Wilson’s avatar is just too confident. Either way, watching the 6’4” phenom break it down in a way that only pixels can has left both fans and Wilson herself in stitches. Let’s just say, her reaction was the virtual mic drop we didn’t know we needed.
Aces Fall Short, But Wilson’s Still Dancing
The 2024 WNBA season didn’t quite end with the Aces pulling off their highly anticipated three-peat. After breezing past the Seattle Storm in the first round, the Aces fell short against the New York Liberty, ending their hopes for a historic third consecutive title. “Three-peats are hard as hell,” Wilson candidly admitted after the loss. But if NBA 2K25 has taught us anything, it’s that Wilson’s got plenty of moves left—on the court and (unintentionally) on the virtual dance floor.
With another MVP award and a season of personal milestones under her belt, including becoming the first player to score over 1,000 points in a single season, Wilson’s legacy continues to grow. But in the meantime, we’ll just be here watching her avatar dance like no one’s watching—or, rather, like everyone is watching and laughing right along with her.
So, what’s next for A’ja Wilson? Maybe brushing up on those dance moves before NBA 2K26? Or better yet, getting her developers to dial back on the “childish” animations. Either way, Wilson’s got the last laugh.”
