In a podcast episode that felt more like a roast than a dating discussion, WNBA star Angel Reese quickly put comedian Funny Marco in his place after he attempted to play matchmaker for her—and let’s just say, his suggestions didn’t exactly land.
Reese, known for her fierce presence on the court, showed that her sharp wit is just as quick as her jump shot when Marco started pitching his ideas for who she should date. Appearing on the latest episode of Reese’s podcast “Unapologetically Angel,” Marco suggested a few options, none of which came remotely close to winning Reese’s approval.
It all started innocently enough—well, at least Marco thought so—when he suggested actor Tyler James Williams, better known as the kid who played the title character in Everybody Hates Chris. You know, that clean-cut sitcom star who grew up on TV. Marco, brimming with confidence, said:
“The dude that played ‘Everybody Hates Chris’—that person right there, that actor. He’s clean-cut, does his thing…”
But Reese was having none of it. She cut him off with the same precision she uses to swat shots in the paint:
“Don’t be stupid.” (44:40 mark)
Ouch. Sorry, Tyler.
Marco, undeterred by the verbal block, pressed on. Next up? Kirk Franklin, the gospel singer who’s been directing choirs since before Reese was born. Yep, Marco suggested a 54-year-old to a 22-year-old. What could go wrong?
“I am 22, he is how old?” Reese responded, her face a masterclass in disbelief. “That’s not going to work.”
Nice try, Marco. Maybe next time aim for someone born in the same millennium.
Not one to back down, Marco, sensing defeat but still clinging to hope, jokingly teased that Reese was flirting with him. Reese’s response? A dagger that could end any short king’s dreams:
“I don’t do short kings. Sorry.”
The internet may never recover.
Reese has made it clear before—she’s got a type, and it involves a lot of height. The Chicago Sky star prefers her men tall, towering even, ideally standing somewhere between 6-foot-7 and 6-foot-8. NBA players, start lining up, because short kings need not apply. Reese’s dating history hasn’t exactly been a secret, either. Earlier this year, she was linked to Pistons center Jalen Duren, sparking rumors after she was spotted rocking a Detroit jersey and hanging out with him during the WNBA’s Olympic break. But it seems like that flame has fizzled out. Reese reportedly unfollowed Duren on Instagram, which in 2024, is basically the equivalent of filing divorce papers.
On the podcast, Reese took a moment to address the elephant in the room—why is she single? The answer? It’s not because Marco can’t take a hint (though that probably doesn’t help). Reese is in the midst of some serious self-growth, something she says leaves little room for romance right now.
“Why am I single?” Reese pondered. “Just working on myself. Everybody works on themselves, but I’m not ready to give myself to someone else right now. I don’t want to give half. If I’m in a relationship, I’m going to give everything I have.”
That’s right, folks. Reese doesn’t do half-measures—whether it’s on the court or in her personal life. She even hinted at some relationship regrets from her past but kept things vague. No names were dropped, leaving us all to speculate and scroll through her social media feed like the nosy fans we are.
While Reese focuses on self-improvement and dodges dating disasters, she’s gearing up for her next big move. The WNBA offseason might be in full swing, but Reese is staying busy, preparing to play in the Unrivaled League this January. Until then, she’ll likely keep shutting down bad dating advice and towering over her competition—both on and off the court.
Stay tuned for more from Unapologetically Angel, where, if nothing else, you’ll learn exactly who not to suggest as her next love interest.
