In the midst of nursing yet another concussion, poor Tua Tagovailoa found himself not just sidelined but also squarely in the crosshairs of his own teammate, Tyreek Hill. While most teammates offer moral support, Hill chose the path less traveled: roasting his QB on social media. Classic.
It all started during Week 2 when Tagovailoa attempted to channel his inner dual-threat quarterback, scrambling against the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, that ended with Bills safety Damar Hamlin making Tua one with the turf and adding yet another concussion to the poor guy’s growing collection. This one marked his third official NFL concussion – and let’s just say, at this point, it’s starting to look more like a series than a one-off special.
As Tua recovers, a brave (or reckless) Dolphins fan, going by the screen name “CoachJimFuller” on X (formerly Twitter, because, you know, rebrands), decided to chime in with the perfect recipe for disaster. He suggested that Tua’s first play back should be a designed QB run, just to show the league he’s not afraid of a little physicality. Because who doesn’t want their injury-prone quarterback sprinting headfirst into another possible concussion, right?
Tyreek Hill, naturally, saw this gem on his timeline and couldn’t resist. He tweeted, “Who gone call the next play.” A harmless joke? Maybe. But if you’re Tua, sitting there wondering if your brain cells are planning a strike, it probably didn’t feel like just locker-room banter.
Fans, of course, jumped on this faster than Tua hits the turf. Some saw it as playful ribbing, while others viewed it as Hill subtly questioning if his QB was made of glass. Let’s face it, though, when you’ve had more concussions than touchdown passes this season, people start to worry about your long-term durability.
Tua has already been ruled out for next Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, which means Dolphins fans will have to wait even longer to see if Hill’s joke will age well. The team, meanwhile, is reviewing Tua’s status on a weekly basis – basically, “We’ll let you know when his brain stops sounding like a tambourine.”
Tua’s Medical Report Reads Like a Novel
In case anyone needed reminding, Tua’s injury history reads more like a medical journal than a football stat sheet. In just five NFL seasons, the guy’s had more setbacks than a soap opera villain. We’re talking high ankle sprains, thumb sprains, fractured ribs, fractured fingers, a shoulder injury, and, of course, the concussions. Not one, not two, but four concussions.
The most troubling part? Three of those concussions have come in the last two years. This latest one, courtesy of the Bills, is the fourth of his career and probably the last thing his neurologist wanted to hear. At this rate, the guy’s going to need his own concussion protocol just to play “Madden.”
Can Tua Save His Career?
Now, the question lingering in everyone’s minds (especially Tua’s) is whether he can stay healthy long enough to salvage his NFL career. Concussions are no joke, and for a guy who’s already stacked up four, it’s starting to feel like he’s rolling dice with his future every time he takes a snap.
One thing’s for sure: if Tua wants to keep playing football – or, you know, avoid turning his head into a piñata – he’s going to have to learn to protect himself a whole lot better. Otherwise, Hill’s joke about calling the next play might become less of a jab and more of a haunting reality.
