In a shocking turn of events, popular country singer Morgan Wallen found himself in serious legal trouble early Monday morning in downtown Nashville. The 30-year-old artist was arrested and slapped with three felony counts of reckless endangerment, as well as a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
The incident occurred outside Eric Church’s newly opened honky-tonk bar called Chief’s on the iconic Broadway street in Music City. According to police reports, officers were stationed in front of the establishment when a chair suddenly came hurtling down from the sixth floor, narrowly missing them as it crashed to the ground.
An employee quickly informed the cops that it was Wallen who had recklessly thrown the chair from the rooftop area of the bar. Surveillance footage reviewed by the authorities allegedly showed the “Wasted on You” singer lunging forward and launching an object over the edge of the roof. Witnesses claimed Wallen laughed after the dangerous stunt.
The three felony counts relate to the two officers who were put at risk by the falling chair, as well as the general public in the busy downtown area. Wallen’s bond was set at $15,250, which he has since paid to secure his release from custody.
In a terse statement, the singer’s lawyer Worrick Robinson said, “At 10:53pm Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”
This is not the first time the rising country star has faced controversy. In 2021, Wallen was caught on video using a racial slur, leading to his music being pulled from radio and being disqualified from several award shows. However, his album sales surged in the wake of the scandal.
Wallen is next due in court on May 3rd for this latest incident – coincidentally the same dates he has major concerts scheduled at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium as part of his wildly popular touring cycle.
The arrest casts a pall over what has been a meteoric rise to fame for the East Tennessean. Wallen’s 2022 album “Dangerous: The Double Album” shattered streaming records and he has developed a wildly passionate fan base drawn to his authentic country sound and charismatic stage presence.
As Wallen’s legal situation plays out, all eyes will be on whether this felony arrest proves a mere hiccup or potentially derails the young star’s skyrocketing career trajectory. The incident stands as a stark reminder that even celebrity status does not preclude serious consequences for reckless behavior that endangers the public.
