Sydney Sweeney, the rising star best known for her roles in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus”, recently revealed she gave her beloved grandmothers the ultimate surprise – small roles as nuns in her latest horror movie “Immaculate”.
In interviews promoting the R-rated film’s release this week, the 25-year-old actress shared how she flew both of her grandmothers to the stunning Italian countryside where “Immaculate” was filmed. But it wasn’t just a dream vacation – Sweeney arranged for her “Grandys”, who had never traveled to Europe before, to make cameo appearances as extras playing nuns.
“I made them extras as nuns and then I brought them to the premiere in LA and they were just so excited,” Sweeney enthusiastically told hosts on the “Today Show” on Wednesday. “My Grandy’s dream was to go to Italy, she’s never left the country before so I surprised them.”
The heart-warming gesture allowed Sweeney’s grandmothers to not only visit the picturesque Italian villages and vineyards that served as the primary filming locations, but also to be a small part of the psychological horror themselves.
“They’d never been to Europe,” Sweeney had previously shared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in February. “So I was like, you know what, I’m going to fly them to Italy.”
In “Immaculate”, Sweeney plays Cecilia, a young woman who becomes a nun at a remote Italian convent only to discover its terrifying secrets. The film has been praised for its chilling atmosphere and shocking climax, which Sweeney teased will likely divide audiences.
