A Russian aircraft carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war crashed in heavy fog last night near the Russian-Ukrainian border, according to Russian officials. The plane was a Yakovlev Yak-42 jet carrying 45 Ukrainian POWs and 6 crew members when it went down around 9 pm local time outside the city of Ryazan.
Early reports indicate that at least 4 crew members have died. The fate of the 45 Ukrainian prisoners is currently unknown as recovery and rescue operations continue throughout the night.
